Do you like to fly in the winter?
Yes, unfortunately winter is fast approaching...much to the dismay of those of us in the north.

I love flying in the winter.  The views are great and the airplane performs better.  What I don't like is pre and post flight operations in the freezing cold!  Conducting a good inspection, preheating, and just getting the old Lycoming to fire up are a challenge.

I couldn't have said it better, Mike!!  Sadly, although at 87.7 I still pass the class 2 med, the Social Security just doesn't hack it for much flying any more.  I spent the last couple of years flying a Musketeer and homebuilt Stits Playmate with a long time buddy who had heart problems.  So I went along as PIC "ballast"!!  But he finally sold the planes.  'Ya got a nice American (am a former dealer!) or Cessna170B I can buy for a buck .698??   By the way, I'm still awaiting my huge "HERO" MEDAL,  for soloing my dear "spice" when she was a 50 year old Gramma!!  Lee

During my career as a military pilot many a winter were spent freezing on the flight deck when the heaters failed in flight. C-54's were notorious. However I agree with Mr. Robinson that the scene below was usually amazing.  However flying was never a job to me and never boring. If they made an aircraft that never needed to land, well you know what I mean.

Summer is still nicer, but I enjoyed seeing the snow covered stuff on the ground, and flying an old J3 on skis!  Somewhere I have several photos, so I'll have to find them!  Western PA, where it sometimes got to -22 deg!! I went to grade school at a country school, and around 1936, it hit 22 below and froze the Ohio River!  My Mother bundled me up and sent me off to school, about a 1 mile walk, and didn't find out about the temp until she later turned on the radio.  PANICSVILLE!!   After about an hour, the Janitor sent we 4 students back home.  Nobody else showed up, even among the 4 teachers!!   Lee Robinson  at a warm West Palm Beach!!
