Female Pilots: The Hollywood Generation

When it comes to the world of aviation, many believe that it is still a man’s world. Hollywood films champion the handsome male fighter pilot whist women are typically shown waving them off, handkerchief in hand however in the real world women are taking charge of the skies, with many famous celebrity faces entering the cockpit. Joining the likes of John Travolta, Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise are some of Hollywood’s best known actresses, who have all embarked on pilot training for a film role or as a hobby. Check out some of these budding Amelia Earharts who have all stocked up on their pilot supplies.

Gisele Bundchen

Supermodel and actress Gisele is currently studying for her helicopter pilot license. The former Victoria’s Secret Angel has already passed her written test and is now planning to take her practical exam. Considering she already dominates one runway, it is safe to say that Gisele will take to the skies with ease!

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie gained her pilots license in 2004 and studied in a Cessna 172. The actress has purchased her own SR22 plane and reportedly prefers to fly barefoot as shown in a photo shoot with Vogue where Jolie hopped into the cockpit of a place and instinctively kicked off her heels. Her plane is equipped with a parachute capable of carrying the whole plane to safety in case of emergency.

Hilary Swank

Considering Swank played Amelia Earhart in the Hollywood adaptation of her life, it is no surprise that the actress caught the flying buzz! During filming of the movie, Swank undertook the majority of training needed to achieve her pilots licence however stopped short of actually taking her practical test as the studio’s insurance policy would not cover it.
